the 52 PROJECT.

I have taken part of the 52 project - take a picture of my daughters every week for a whole year - (discovered through one of the blog I follow Practising Simplicity ) three years ago and I've been part of it for the past two. I have documented my second pregnancy, the first year of Alma and the growth of Zoe... Sometimes I was tired and i felt this project as a job (not appealing) but now, looking at all the pictures that became two wonderful photo books, I am grateful to my determination.

For the 2015 I decided to not join Jodi and the others in the 52 project, mostly because my husband was not so happy of posting pictures of our children. I understood that, and didn't post one single photo of the girls. But... you know what? without the commitment of posting each Sunday my weekly picture of them, I ended up having very few... and that's bad! Not only I have less picture of them but even my practice (photography practice I mean) have lost out by that! Taking good pictures, understanding light, finding out a new perspective has a lot to do with practice, and I am losing that.
Of course I have thought about all the bad things that can happen to my kids' pictures, the fact that maybe they don't what to be shown that much etc... I have read articles and talked with other moms. And I have my idea. My daughters' pictures can be "used" by bad people in many ways, but everyone can take a picture of them while we are in a playground or on the beach. I try to protect them every time, every single day, but i can't control what people do with the pictures. I decided to watermark my pictures and establish some rules about what to show of our lives, but, beside that, I'm to proud of them and I love to much taking pictures of them, for not showing you!
When they will be old enough to understand I will ask their permission - of course -but until then I hope they will see my 52 Projects as they are: a diary of their growth.

What do you think?

  1. I joined for the first time this year and I've really enjoyed it, it's so true that you need to practise to improve your photography skills and this project has given me a little push. Many weeks I am grabbing my camera on a Saturday or Sunday for the photo which makes me realise that I certainly wouldn't have these pictures if it weren't for the project. As for pictures of your children on the internet, for me more important than the pictures is the information...not revealing details of their lives or behaviour.
