the 1st of may is a national holiday here in italy and almost everybody plans an out-of-town trip. we decided to visit Ferrara. i’ve already been there, long time ago, but i don’t remember that much so… we took the car and in 1 hour and half we were there! it’s called “the city of bicycles” and i know why: not only there are bicycle everywhere, but there are a lot of cycling lanes! next time we really need to rent one!

the city centre is simply beautiful: red bricks, used following the renaissance rules, part of the unesco heritage, with a massive, four-towered fortress, il castello degli estensi, built in 1385 (we saw a historical show there with flag-wavers and costumed characters).

it’s not only a beautiful city but home of very friendly nice people! we’ve never met so many people that wanted to play with our girls, or just say hello to them!

and, please, don’t miss two special typical desserts: tagliatelle cake (with almonds) and  tenerina (with chocolate). yummy!
