FINDING DEPTH IN PHOTOGRAPHY.

Untitled-10Untitled-13Untitled-14

last week i thought about photography. i really love taking pictures, but taking good ones is beyond a simple hobby… it requires technique, study, practice and… an artistic touch! i don’t know if i have an artistic eye but i certainly can improve my study and my technique. i bought an ebook written by michael frye exposure for outdoor photography and i started studying…again. i already knew about depth of field, stops, light and iso, but i never try to find out what really means. that’s why this afternoon, while my feverish daughter was kind of sleeping, i took these pictures, trying to keep the same perspective. i set the camera (i use a nikon d90 with 85mm/1.8 lenses) on ‘a’ mode (you decide the aperture and the camera chooses the shutter speed) and took several pictures.

i already knew that the image would become sharper but i didn’t know ‘when’ exactly. unfortunately the light didn’t allowed me to shoot with closest stop.. i’ll try again outside, on a bright day.

i will share my ‘exercises along the way. the goal will be add more personality to my pictures and i’m ready to work on it.

Zoe Tiare: potty training is an uphill struggle.
Alma Aiko: feverish for the past four days… your first access in the hospital, your first blood exams… a lot of “first of” but none of them happy…
no favorites this week. i learnt jodi’s lesson: you have to know where to put your efforts and last week was obviously whole for my family. i just can’t do everything.

MY GRANOLA BARS.

DSC_3941

last weekend, rain + cold made me want to cook. i have to admit: that’s not a cooking recipe. yes, you have to toast oatmeal and seeds but it’s not ‘cooking’ right?

anyway, the recipe is very easy even if you need several ingredients:

100gr of oatmeal, 100gr of coconut flakes, 50gr of wheat germ, 70gr of sesame seeds, 70gr of pumpkin seeds, 70gr of sunflower seeds (i bought a mix of all the seeds in a local bio market), 100gr of raisins (not for me…i don’t like them!), 100gr of honey (even less), 80gr of butter and 60gr of brown sugar.

toast all the seeds for about 10 minutes. bring to boil honey, butter and sugar and let it cook for about 8 minutes. leave drop it in a glass full of cold water: if it becomes an elastic ball, it’s ready. mix everything together and pour it on a baking sheet. let it cool.

OUR WEEKEND.

DSC_3875Untitled-5DSC_3881 DSC_3938 DSC_3940

we spent the last weekend stuck in the house. zoe had cough and alma had a cold. and it rained. not bad, eh?! so we did the laundry (actually i did the laundry while they were playing!), made pancakes, listened to some kids music and made delicious muesly bars (i’ll share the recipe this week). oh… and we’ve seen cinderella. again. ;)

last week i was walking with the kids and i saw this beautiful magnolia tree with all those fallen petals. a sea of white and pink. i asked the owner if i could take some pictures of the girls in that beautiful scenario and she was so kind to let me do that. people on streets stopped to see my littles playing with all those petals and i was just… a proud mama. everything went well until i found alma eating a petal and i was freaked out, because i didn’t know if magnolia was poisonous!! if you’re interesting, it’s not! you can eat magnolia flowers…. good to know, right?!

BYE BYE WINTER.

 DSC_3662 DSC_3673
this has probably been our last weekend on the snow. the weather is so warm that i prefer going to the sea or having a picnic rather than skiing… i can’t remember a warm winter as this one. it never ever snowed in my town and that is quite strange. i really missed the snow at christmas time but now i’m enjoying the warm sunny days!
it was a strange trip, moving from picture 1 (melted snow) to picture 2 (a wall of snow) in 20 minutes!
anyway we had a great time on the snow: zoe managed to repress sled’s fear and alma felt the snow for the first time.

PAUSE: KINFOLK.

 DSC_3642Untitled-2DSC_3645DSC_3660

many of you already know kinfolk, because i’ve heard about this magazine from some of your blogs. i’ve seen that the last issue was about house and i really really wanted to read it. unfortunately it is not sold here in italy, but… hey.. is there something you can not find on internet?!

this magazine is nothing less than perfect: the photos are so elegant and the articles are interesting. it’s not a common paper: every detail is well-finished, there is no advertisement and it explores the concept instead of his several expressions. so in this issue you’ll find how to be a perfect guest, how to enjoy your life alone, as a duo or more, and some recipies. a completely lifestyle experience focused every time on a different theme.

so that was my afternoon pause: a coffee, an homemade muffing, an happy beautiful pal and kinfolk.

now i’m really looking forward to buy the japan issue!

OUT & ABOUT: GARDA’S LAKE.

DSC_3595DSC_3596DSC_3602DSC_3635DSC_3613

i live in a lucky place: one hour from the sea, one hour from the lake, one hour from the mountains, one hour from one of the most romantic cities in the world (venice). last sunday we decided to go to the garda’s lake. we put the girls together in the back seat for the first time and the ride has been… incredibly nice. zoe played with alma (that actually slept for half the ride) and i had the chance to talk to giulio, “face-to-face”, not “face-to- driving mirror”. we passed the mountains full of snow and stopped to see some sheep (zoe loves animals). the lake is always charming, especially during this season when it’s not crowded… the weather was so sunny that we had picnic outside. first picnic for alma and first time at the lake. god… she is always so curious!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, GIULIO!

Untitled-1

happy birthday to my best friend, my husband, my daughters’ daddy, my other half. i love you!

today he took the whole day off and we had breakfast, went for shopping, he went for a bus ride with zoe (she kept asking me for that since weeks!) and we ate a lot of treats… singing happy birthday every time! such a special day!

POTATOES and BROCCOLI PIE.

DSC_3552
my husband is not a cooked-vegetables lover so deciding to cook a recipe like this one is always a challenge. plus there are broccoli, one of the less loved vegetable in the world, i think. but i won! they tried these pies and hubby said “delicious!”. zoe was less enthusiastic about them but she ate at least one and i’m satisfied. [the recipe is from babygreen.it]

the recipe is nothing less than easy:
300gr of steamed potatoes
150gr of steamed broccoli
2 eggs
60gr of parmesan cheese
olive oil
salt
breadcrumbs
nutmeg

mash potatoes and broccoli. add eggs, salt, oil, cheese and nutmeg and mix until you get a homogeneous mixture. oil and spread with breadcrumbs six molds before adding the mixture. bake at 180° for 20-25 minutes.  [italian recipe here]
next time i will just add an heart of cheese… it will be perfect!
